I’ve gotten a few questions about Enes Kanter recently.
Kanter is the highly-touted center prospect who, in a complete surprise to most fans, announced about a month ago that he’d be playing at Montlake next season.
Here’s our profile of Kanter, including some coverage of the eligibility issues that may prevent Kanter from playing from day one next season.
As far as whether Kanter has signed his LOI (letter of intent). . . No, he hasn’t. There are two periods to sign: the early period (November 11 – 18, 2009) and the regular signing period (April 14 – May 19, 2010). Kanter announced he’d be playing for the Dawgs a few days after the early signing period ended, so he won’t be able to make it official until April, 2010.
A few of you have expressed concern over the possibility of Kanter backing out of his commitment prior to signing. Is it possible that Kanter could change his mind? Of course.
That said, I have ZERO information that would lead me to believe anything is in the works, or that there’s anything to be concerned about.
As of now, next year’s Husky frontcourt is looking A-OK to me!
Thanks for coming!

It’s weird, tried to find the Stoneridge website and it is outdated. I know he is already graduated and hoping that everything transfered over to the states but that prep school is very suspect to me.

Well let’s just hope that Kanter qualifies. Qualifying is no, excuse me, slam dunk, for him or others. Talk about the big one that got away: Charles Garcia. No one thought losing him to S.U. was a big deal until now. Look at Bob Condotta’s article “Seattle U Men’s Hoops: Charles Garcia is a hot NBA prospect” today. “Six NBA scouts attended Seattle U.’s 82-81 win over UC-Irvine Tuesday, and 10 watched a game earlier this month at UC-Davis. DraftExpress.com has Garcia projected as the No. 21 pick in its latest 2010 mock draft. Garcia signed a letter of intent with UW but, despite meeting NCAA eligibility requirements, was not admitted to the university. He then enrolled at Seattle U.”
Can someone please explain again how the NCAA and S.U. were satisfied but UW (admissions?) said gosh no, his academic qualifications aren’t good enough for us. Does anyone think that makes any sense or is fair??? He’s a worse academic risk than everyone on Montlake. Whatever happened to partial and delayed qualifying like Brandon Roy endured? So, can’t count on Kanter until he’s here. Husky coaches certainly know talent though.

Without going into the Garcia thing, there were a lot of rumors about maybe he would disrupt the chemistry of the team in various ways. Again, just rumors but it seems if the coaching staff wanted to get someone in, they would.

Gersen,
don’t kid yourself, Romar knew how good Garcia would be. Chemistry issues? Like what? That is Just a lame excuse that let’s Woodward off the hook for screwing up on the job. Bottom line, Garcia should be at UW, and we’d be a better team with him on our roster. Romar should be pissed off at his boss for making him look like a liar. -
