State of the Blog

A bunch of readers have asked lately, so I want to give a better explanation than I did last time as to why you aren’t seeing as much here at Montlake Madness.

The short answer is that I simply haven’t got as much time at this point to write.

The longer answer is that I started the blog over a period of time when things were pretty predictable in most areas of my life. Building the site up from nothing, to single-digit readership, to hundreds, to over a thousand members of the Montlake Madness community is something I’m incredibly proud of. But, to every thing there is a season. . .

Without sharing more than you really want to hear, I haven’t got as much time lately, one of the reasons being the very happy development that I’m going to be a dad later this year.

I wish I could say that the daily, or more regular, coverage you’ve come to expect here would pick up again at some point, but I don’t know if that’s the case. The season will be over in the next few weeks, and by the time we tip again for the 2010/2011 season, I’m going to have a much more important pre-7-AM (my normal writing time) appointment than the blog.

On the other hand, I do love what I’ve built here and I don’t want it to evaporate into the ether. I truly love the community of readers we’ve built. I love hearing your thoughts in our comments section, and in the polls we sometimes put out there. And, I love that we’ve got another free site covering the most awesome college basketball team in the world.

So, here’s the deal: For the time being, I’m going to continue writing when I am able to. Moving forward, though, the best case scenario for the site would be for me to hand the daily care of Montlake Madness over to someone else, hopefully still leaving the door open for me to write when I get a chance.

If you think you might be the right torch-carrier for Montlake Madness, please get in touch with me and let’s talk: MontlakeMadness@gmail.com

If I’ve disappointed some of you recently, I’m truly sorry for that. It’s been a great time and if I have anything to say about it, we’ll keep it going here somehow.

As always, thanks for coming!

Let’s see, you’re going to be a father but you won’t be able to blog as much. Sounds like a good trade to me! No apologies are in order, just congratulations.
The time you put into this site, in the past and going forward, creates free ice cream for your readers: it’s tasty, we love it, and don’t you dare let us complain about it.

Hope you find some new voices to help out. Go dawgs!

Thanks for the website. I’ve loved checking it out and finding info on here that I couldn’t find at any other site or Husky-related site. Congrats on the new arrival and best wishes with all your future endeavors. I’d be more than happy to contribute blog entries or an article here and there. Also, being a UW alumnus, now living in California, I’m always looking for good stuff about my Dawgs, and this site has provided.

    Thanks Josh.

Congrats on fatherhood, in my opinion nothing beats it.

Personally knowing you’ll be providing content when you’re able I’ll keep checking it out. You do a great job, know your stuff and are balanced in your opinions.

Maybe you can make it a team effort, get a few different guys putting some stuff together and keeping the board alive.

Whatever, you’ve done a great job and it’s been fun. Congratulations once again.

Congrats on becoming a dad. I’ve loved your stuff and look forward to whatever contribution you can continue to make in the future.

    Let’s go Dawgs.

Hey your doing a great job and congrats on being a daddy. I have a buddy who religiously follows the Huskies and would be a great addition if this were to move forward to a community of writers.

What about Gant’s Moustache taking over? He always had entertaining posts. Him and a few others maybe?

I have to second Paul’s words above. I will look forward to your occasional posts. All the best to you as your priorities are in the right place!

I’m just reading this now, and I wanted to chime in from the perspective of someone who seriously thought her blogging days were over once she had a baby. Yes, having a baby takes up A LOT of your time, especially in the beginning when you’re figuring out how everything will work. But eventually, slowly over time, you get into a rhythm, a groove, and suddenly little bits of the life you enjoyed before baby will again come into focus. I think the recent re-launching of my blog is a good example of that.

It sounds like you’ve got a few people on deck to help you out, and what’s so great about Montlake Madness is that it’s got this great community of followers in such a short amount of time (seriously enviable!), and even if you can only write once a month, your fans will follow. You’ve done an awesome job on the blog, and since I know you in real life, I can say that I know you’ll be an awesome dad, too. :)
