We’ve got a BIG game to focus on, so I’ll be brief about today’s disappointing news.
Word today from Scout.com that Turkish center Enes Kanter (our profile here) is opening up his recruitment and looking at other schools. I’ve not spoken to Enes myself, but his words to Scout are pretty clear.
Enes claims he doesn’t know a lot about the NCAA and wants to explore his options. (WHAT-ever, Enes!)
Percy Allen has some more here. This is a bummer for the Dawgs, obviously. Unless. . .
It’s a total bummer unless Terrence Jones announces in just a few short weeks that he’s coming to play at UW. We’ll see, but a source told me today that he’s heard that UW is the frontrunner for Terrence. I can’t let my hopes get up any higher, so I’ll just say that I’m cautiously optimistic.

And, of course, the day’s other big news is the possibility of the Pac-10 expanding to 12 schools.
I don’t know what to think yet. My initial reaction is that I like the Thursday/Saturday, home-and-home style of the Pac-10 schedule. I’ll wait for this to come to pass, and for concrete details to emerge, before giving any more opinion on this.
What do YOU think of Pac-10 expansion? Would love to hear thoughts from the readers on this. . . Let me know, and thanks for coming!

I think I would make the trade Jones for Kanter and I would love to see more teams in the PAC-10

i won’t be surprised if we don’t land either one truthfully! the Sad part is i doubt we will!

I like the size of the Pac-10 the way it is, but understand how adding teams could help with football revenue. I just don’t see a good fit for teams to add. Colorado makes the most sense to me (they bring in about the same revenue as Oregon St), but beyond them, there aren’t many good fits. Utah maybe, but they’d have by far the smallest revenue in the conference. TCU or BYU would be better fits in the fiscal sense, but culturally don’t fit either. If Colorado did switch to the Pac-10 though, that would free up the Big12 to go after TCU and corner the Texas market.
As for the recruiting situation, I would be pleasantly surprised if we landed both Jones and Kanter, I think we’ll get one, and wouldn’t be surprised if we got neither. No idea which one we get. I’d kind of like to see Jones in P&G more than Kanter, but landing Kanter might be better for building a pipeline to Europe, which would be huge.

I haven’t heard this suggestion from anyone yet….but how about Boise State? If it’s Utah and Boise State……we can stop hearing about (at least for a brief moment) how these small schools never get a shot at the BCS…
Back to basketball….Dang it Enes!! Just as I was thinking of clever ways of how to defend you when opposing team’s fans were licking their chops on how to pronounce you name….or, at least, what it *sounded like*. I’ll be happy to keep defending you if you come wear the purple and gold next year though.

Divine intuition is telling me that Romar backed off the heavy recruitment of Kanter for a reason. Romar is no fool. He wouldn’t have backed off his recruitment of a five star player unless he had something else better up his sleeve. I believe he may have something cooking in the kitchen with Terrence Jones.
From Terrence’s perspective, he couldn’t be walking into a better situation next year with Qpon’s departure. He could immediately step in to a starting role at the 3 or 4 spot and make an immediate impact.
Quite frankly, I was always a little sketchy on Kanter. I do believe he could be one of the best players in the country next year, but if he has to sit out 20 games like the WVU Turkish player, I see no real benefit in having him as a one and done. I would rather reserve that spot for someone like Jones who most likely will stay for atleast 2 years and fits in with our quick pace of play.
Lord help us if I am wrong, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Crank dat Soulja Boy. Spot on with your predictions. Does that make any sense? lol

gersen – yes it makes perfect sense. Thanks for backing me up yo!

Would we be able to bring in both Kanter and Jones and be able to stay under the scholarship limit? Who from the current team would we drop?
-
I believe we could bring in both if needs be, Romar has a funny way of over recruiting and creating space on his roster for his recruits.
I’d imagine they wouldn’t “drop” anyone off. We will be losing two players next year in Qpon and Brenden Sherrer. Granted Sherrer is a walk on, but players have been known to be non-scholarship athletes in their final year of eligibility (Jake Locker as an example) and could be used as a ploy to retain talent on this roster.
If we were to sign any of the recruits visiting next weekend, I am certain we will have some players urging for a transfer. My best guess would be Darnell Gant given his dive into our depth chart. ET is on the bubble seeing as how well Scott Suggs is playing this year and CJ Wilcox looming next year as our “best” 3 pt threat.
According to this post: http://www.mynorthwest.com/?sid=&nid=518, the recruits rumored to be visiting are: Terrence Jones, Terrance Ross, Aziz Ndiaye and Dwayne Polee.
Sounds like we are inching closer to Terrence Jones with the coaching uncertainty of UO.
Dream Line Up: 2010-2011
G – Abdul Gaddy
G – Isaiah Thomas
F – Terrence Jones
F – Justin Holiday
F/C – Aziz Ndiaye/Enes Kanter
