Quick Josh Smith Update

Smith UCLA visit copyJust a quick Josh Smith recruiting update today. . . I reported earlier this week that Josh had cancelled this weekend’s visit to UCLA. Well, according to Scout.com’s premium site, it turns out that he’s rescheduled the visit for the weekend of October 3rd. He’ll be heading down with guard recruits Ray McCallum and Tyler Lamb.

So much for thinking the cancellation of this weekend’s trip was a good sign. And, yes, I know I’m giving a lot of coverage to a recruit many feel is a done deal with UCLA, but I’m holding out hope. Big men like Josh don’t come along often, and I’m still of the belief that until he commits otherwise, he might decide that playing before his family and friends makes more sense than all the hubbub that comes with living in LA.

For the record, 85% of readers who voted in our poll felt that, even if Smith goes one-and-done in school they’d still rather see him at UW than UCLA.

I’ll pass along whatever comes up over the weekend, and I’ve got an interview with a current Husky that I’ll post on Tuesday, once most people are back from the long weekend.

Be ready for one heck of a class for 2011. Would like Alias Smith and Jones but we are one some nice bigs for 2011 plus Wroton and Bell. Could be great class.

Yes, 2011 should be very strong. We are currently the top choice for the #1 and #2 California prospects, Norvel Pelle and Angelo Chol who are both lanky big men with a lot of upside. They are both Top 50 caliber players, rated in the top 5 for their positions (PF and C)

Another thing that may work in our favor with Pelle is that he has already played in a near capacity game at Hec Ed; his Dominguez team outlasted Rainier Beach at the King Holiday Hoopfest this past January: http://www.maxpreps.com/news/EAZO24WFW0WZ4Aew9cAoTw/seattle%E2%80%99s-best–franklin-hustles-past-garfield.htm

I’m sure if he was interested in UW at the time, he could have had a look around the facilities. Several Husky players were at that game if I recall, including Overton, Holiday, and MBA.

I’m sure most of you have seen this video, but in case you haven’t there is a good youtube clip of a tour of the locker room at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KZgE3m9xEI
