Links and more after an eventful few days in Husky basketball:
First: Quincy Pondexter won his third Pac-10 Player-of-the-Week award for his play against Stanford and Cal, averaging 26 points and 7.5 rebounds in the two games. Here’s the release, which shows Pondexter leading the league in award-winning weeks. Wazzu’s Klay Thompson is second.
Not surprisingly, the Huskies are still absent from both polls this week. No Pac-10 team appears in either top 25, although Arizona State did receive a few votes, and Cal received one vote in the Coaches’ Poll.
Joe Lunardi has the Huskies in the “next four out” category in his latest Bracketology column. He projects Cal and Arizona State into the tournament, both as 11 seeds.
Seth Davis at CNNSI.com actually says that the Huskies helped themselves with their non-conference schedule by not playing any “really bad teams.”
Also at CNNSI.com, Andy Glockner projects the Dawgs making the Tournament as a 10 seed, and Cal in there as a 9.
And thanks to reader Andy for pointing out that the Huskies have less losses (five) than North Carolina or UConn (six each). Sure, both national powers are struggling, but it’s another reminder that other teams with high hopes slip up sometimes too, and they haven’t necessarily doomed their seasons.
Yes, I’m excited about this team. How ’bout you, Husky fans? Let me hear it in our comments section!

Hey, I said that about the 6 losses, although my name is Andy too.
I got a note from Texas (that’s what I will call him), saying he does not have a feeling that Jones will go to UW but he has not heard that anywhere just his gut feeling. Also, they are recruiting Jones and it is not really mentioned too much in the media but they are recruiting him. -
I’m cautiously optimistic about this team. I’m not going to completely buy in until they prove that they can do it on the road. I think that our expectations were a little too high and that while this is certainly a team with a lot of talent, its taken a while for the players to figure out what their respective roles are, in part because of Romar’s strange lineup changes, which prevent any sort of continuity. That said, I like what he was done with the rotation now, as I think that there seems to be a solid plan for how he is using the rotation. If they can keep this going, we have a great shot at repeating as conference champs.

The Huskies are a legit top 15 team at home, their agressive style defense backed by a loud crowd makes it a difficult game for the refs to officiate. The booing from bad calls at home seems to fuel the teams intensity as they tend to go on large runs afterwards like in the oregon state game when calvin haynes stood up with the basketball and there was no traveling called. My main concern is that while dominant with a home crowd, we seem to play like a bottom shelf pac 10 team on the road. Our offence often looks stagnant and confused, and we just seem altogether less confident and decisive on both sides of the ball. This team is young, but they need to figure out how to bring some of that home swagger with them on the road
