I heard from a reliable source that CJ is likely to redshirt. You guys don't think you need him this year. The second that Elston is not hitting from the outside. Where do you go from there? You guys are saying that Gaddy will get better as time goes on. I think we should be saying the same thing about Wilcox. I don't know what we are going to do if Elston is having an off game. Teams are going to pack the middle or play zone against us. CJ should not red shirt!

Compared to last year we are way more athletic and way deeper on the bench. The defense looked really good, with only a few breakdowns. However, rebounding was a glaring weakness last night. It would be one thing if our shots were falling, but we shot so terrible from the field that our offensive rebound numbers should have been much higher than they were. If the rebounding edge is lost, this team loses a huge part of its offense.

As for the players, I was amazed at how bad Turner looked. I had him as a potential starter if Romar wanted to go small and play Q at the 4 spot, but after last night I'm not so sure he is in the current rotation...I thought he was hurt or something, because he looked worse than last year.

I also thought Suggs looked pretty decent. He didn't force any shots, was comfortable with the ball in his hands, and was a tough matchup for opposing guards thanks to his height. His coast to coast lay up where he basically drove in between 3 defenders was pretty sweet. Based on last night, I'd rate him ahead of both Wilcox and Turner(despite the one play where he basically tripped Gaddy and almost caused a TO).

Overton looked good...really good. IT and Q did their thing, although Q was not very aggressive the first half. Trent was better than expected, love the athleticism. Breshers looked great, can't wait for him to get back into game shape.

Gant was OK...I hope he can get more comfortable with that turnaround jumper in the lane, because it will be there, especially if teams play zone against us.

MBA...wasn't very impressed, expected a lot more, especially considering the competition. I wish he would go strong to the basket instead of settling for the fade away hook shot he likes.

Gaddy was interesting to see. He looked great and in control when running the offense, especially when he drove and found open guys. I just wish he had been more aggressive. He passed the ball around the perimeter too much instead of making the play himself. His defense needs a lot of work, and if he can't hit open jumpers then opposing defenses will have an easy time against us.

Free throws were unbelievable...The biggest thing about losing Dentmon is when we are in cloase games and the other team is fouling us, I am not sure who I want to have the ball. Last year it was always JD, but now it's kinda sketchy. Hopefully the guys were just tired and still adjusting to each other, because I expect this team to look a lot more polished against Wright St. than they did last night.

Their defense was way better than last year at the beginning of the year although too many fouls. They played hard and that was good to see. The shots and foul shots will fall. Hurts not having a 90% Dentmon in there though. We are going to be very good, the quickness is ridiculous.

I feel better than a UCLA fan right now. :)

Probably slightly below expectations for the team as a whole, Paul. Probably for no other reason than I was excited and expected too much, and the last time I saw most of these guys play a real game was at the end of last season when these guys were in top form.

Thanks for the comment, Chillin... I guess what I meant was that I expected CJ to look like a freshman tonight, and he did. His points weren't the result of creating his own offense -- he just finished on a couple of plays. He DOES belong, but it's going to take some time for him to be able to come in and impact the game, which is what I expected.

That said, if for some reason Elston Turner looks as bad as he did last night for a longer stretch, CJ may get an opportunity to develop faster, since I think the Dawgs need to have one of those two guys in the rotation as a sharpshooter.

What did you expect from C.J. Wilcox? He is there best shooter and you expected him to go 0-3 from three. Please clarify what you mean by that. I have heard that he looked like he belonged. If he would have it one of those threes. He would have been closed to double digits.

I really enjoyed your breakdown w/ each player as to where reality met expectations.

How would you answer it for the team as a whole?
