Check out this article from the UW Daily which gives the names of the two walk-ons who participated in practice last week: Rudy Sharar and Brendan Sherrer. Sharar, who’s interviewed for the piece said Coach asked him to join the practice squad. No word on whether either player will dress for games.
More on this later. Also, Percy Allen gives the first part of his Pac-10 picks on the Times blog.

Sharar, and Sherrer? Come on…thats absurd. who did they beat out, Nixon and Nicksin?

Percy Allen blogged “Thursday’s walk-on tryout unearthed a pair of players for the Huskies. One player was a guard, who could handle the ball and shoot fairly accurately. The other guy was a post player who wasn’t afraid to bang beneath the boards.” What are the names of these guys, which is guard, which is post? Percy said one post was senior Kyle Shoun, at least 6-7, thin, from Black Hills H.S. in Tumwater. A commenter said Shoun is
6-10. Aerodawg said “I think Shoun is essential to the future of our basketball team. From my observations of pick up games at the IMA, he may be the most naturally gifted post player to hit montlake in years. He’s raw, but give him reps with the team and I won’t be surprised to find him starting by the end of the season.” Anyone agree with Aerodawg? Well, if Shoun is that good, why isn’t he one of the 2 walk-ons invited to practice?
Also on Percy’s blog, commenter bhamhusky criticized our big men’s coach, and Husky Digest defended Coach Fortier, and called him ” a 1st rate big men’s coach in my opinion. ” This sounds very relevant to our chances of landing Josh Smith or Terrence Jones. Is anyone telling those kids how good a coach Coach Fortier is? I hope so. OldTacomaDawg. -
never seen Sharar ball but a quick search revealed that he was the sixth man on the Bainbridge team that lost to O’dea in the ’07 3A championship, playing with Gonzaga’s Steven Gray. He was also on the Bainbridge team that went to the 2001 Little League World Series.
Also – Bainbridge Island was in the ’07 3A Championship???? Having grown up there, that’s about as shocking as looking out the window and seeing a pig wearing a Brooks Brother’s suit and riding a unicorn into the sunset. I remember watching Doug Wrenn dunk so hard on us that we forgot we should be embarrassed by the beat down… guess I’m out of touch
