Is Enes Kanter a Sure Thing for UW?

Scroll down for our preview of Thursday’s game against Stanford.

Highly touted Turkish center, Enes Kanter, announced back in November that he’d be coming to Washington to play next season. Since then, there hasn’t been a lot of news about Kanter, which isn’t unusual since we’re in a period in between the early signing period and the spring period.

This week, though, on their pay sites, Scout.com and Dawgman.com there are whispers that Kanter may not easily be cleared to play in the NCAA, and worse, he may soon re-open his recruitment to other schools.

The eligibility question stems from the fact that Kanter has played for a professional team in Turkey, something the NCAA will need to examine.

I hate reporting rumors as anything more than that, so I’ll keep my ear out and write more when I hear more.

Here’s our profile of Kanter.

Thanks for coming!

We just did a full report at the end of the newest premium thread. Kanter is not a sure thing, but the 5 alarm fire that is in those threads on Scout is not anywhere near as serious as all that.

One thing I will say that we reported was that Kanter is 100% committed to UW and reports of him re-opening his recruitment are false, according to our sources.

The problem is almost all to do with how the NCAA is going to handle his case and from what we’ve heard that is not without risk to UW, but that risk according to our sources is small.

We are in touch with Enes and should be hearing from him on this soon.

We just got s report from another source that Kanter has not left the country and also verified that with Stoneridge Prep. We should have more later aftert we speak to Enes and his coach.
