The Arizona team reminds me of a condensed version of the Husky football team. The Husky football team was outstanding, back in the day. They were arguably the best team in the country for several years (I say "arguably" because there wasn't a national championship back then or, arguably, one now). The point is, Arizona basketball under Lute Olson was outstanding, just as Husky football under Don James was outstanding.

But then the coach left. Chaos ensued. Stupid decisions were made by athletic directors. In both cases, the teams got really good (again) but mainly because of one guy. In the case of Husky football, it was Tui. In the case of Arizona, it was DW. After that, the Husky football team went into turmoil, and descended from mediocrity to terrible. Time will tell with the Arizona basketball team.

At this point, though, it looks like Arizona is going through the mediocrity phase. When the season started, there were lots of Wildcat fans that projected great things for the team this year (perhaps macjones was one of them). After all, they only lost one key player. And the coach is brilliant, right? Well, the Huskies pretty much lost their entire team (their four best defenders, and three out of their four best scorers). It's a rebuilding year for the Dawgs, yet this team sits above Arizona, tied for first place in the (admittedly weak) Pac-12 .

There are still games to be played. But so far, the predictions made by the Wildcat fans haven't come true. Arizona isn't leading the conference, nor did they do much outside the conference (didn't you guys lose to division 2 SPU? Maybe you should avoid playing teams from the Northwest). If Arizona rallies and wins the Pac-12 tournament, or somehow sneaks into the NCAA tournament, then they obviously had a successful season. But at this point, I would bet against it.

I know the bracket folks have Arizona in there right now, but they are really close to the bubble. Unless they do well in the Pac-12 tournament, I think they will fall just short. Consider Oregon, for example. Oregon has a lower RPI, beat Arizona (in Tuscon) and has an identical conference record. I don't see anything in the non-conference record of Arizona that suggests that they are better than Oregon.

But it really isn't Oregon that is likely to "steal" Arizona's spot. It is the surprise teams that win the conference tournament. If a mediocre (or even terrible team) wins the conference tournament, they are in automatically. That is one more slot, and every other team (including the Huskies) moves down a spot. That is why the Huskies have to stay focused the rest of the way. They might even win the next three and fail to get into the NCAA tournament. I know that sounds crazy, but consider this scenario:

We win the next three games. Cal does the same. Oregon wins the Pac-12 tournament. A lot of other similar upsets occur across the country in other tournaments. Oregon gets in automatically. Cal has a much better RPI, and beat us in Seattle. Cal is on the bubble, and barely gets in. We don't.

I'm not saying that will happen, but it could. Unfortunately for Wildcat fans, it is even worse. They probably have to win the next three and maybe two games in the Pac-12 tournament.

Lunardi finally has us ahead of Arizona. At least he isn't completely insane like the other brackets saying Arizona is more of a lock then us.

Well....it was worth a try, I guess. Agree to disagree then?

Looking at it from a different perspective, the fact that so much time and energy is spent trying to "prove us wrong".....psychologically speaking, that can only mean one thing. He feels we are a threat. That makes me smile on the inside.

Follow Lunardi, he picked all but one theam last year. Also, it hurt us when Lute retired. He did not coach well at all his last five years there. But he sure could blame everyone else for his losses. Basically, lost his mind.

After persuing several college hoops related sites, I jumped over to the S.T.'s and discovered this whamy. LMAO

" Why the computers hate the Huskies " Seattle Times/blog

Damyum, now y'all Romer APOLOGISTS say the computers are against your team de jure.

Now, that's what I call the mother lode of college basketbll CONSPIRACIES.... Both the human punditry and computers HATE our beloved Huskies.

Now, can y'all UNDERSTAND your collective Purple ENVY for other upper-tier college hoops programs.

Heck Washington fan. Your team can't even get any love from the network which covers PAC-12 mens basketball.

In other words, Huskie fan is on the WARPATH and shreiking why our team de jure ain't on the telly this weekend.

And yes, both of Arizona's game are on the TELLY this weekend. With the Wildcat and U.C.L.A. game being televised by " CBSSports " on a split-national basis. Say it ain't so, Bozo. LOL

I'm guessing that SIXTY PERCENT ( 60% ) of the college hoops tierra will see the Arizona vs. Bruin game on CBS, naturally.

Eh, SIXTY PERCENT ( 60% ) is abso-LUTE-lybetter than NO TELEVISION. seriously lmao

Too get respect in college basketball. A program has to EARN respect NATIONALLY. And believe it or not, both Arizona and U.C.L.A. have built up that RESPECT currency through the decades, and it's still relatively paying dividends. SEE a MEDIOCRE Bruin squad recently playing on CBS NATIONAL telly, for instance. Because other than Arizona or the Bruins, ANY other PAC-12 squad with a .500 record absolutely wouldn't be on that CBS national telly game!! And that I can safely guarantee.

Yes, it's most certainly agreeable that Romer's team is the SECOND best team in the " WEAK PAC-12 " this season. And even a conspiracy nut case can see that. dUh

But again, the SIGNIFIER is it's the WEAK PAC-12 conference this season. So if that make Huskie fan feel good about himself. Then so be it. LOL

As for objectivity, all the typical major college basketball fandom need do, is peruse both JOEY BRACKET'S ( Mr. Joey Brackets, also, happens to be on the Top Ten list of MOST HATED foes, by Washington fan! ) and Jerry Palm's current Bracket PROJECTIONS. Eh.

By the way, the typical Huskie fan over at CBSSportsline is RAGING, LIVID besides himself. Simply because Palm has your team de jure in a No. 13 seed PLAY-IN-GAME. Go figure.

Like I've BLOVIATED time after time, Romer apologists have not only a Purple ENVY issue, but a " all the major college hoops punditry " DON'T give Washington any love. LMAO

Now, that's what I call a CONSPIRACY THEORY of the Huskie sort.... ALL the major college basketball pundits are bloody well AGAINST our beloved Huskies. Seriously LOL

My bad. I couldn't help myself and had to throw it back at U!

I have a feeling I'll regret asking this.....but in an effort to have any semblance of a constructive discussion, I am slightly curious how 'Mac' would answer this question:

- In your opinion, what do the Washington Huskies have to do THIS SEASON to change your mind or at least give some credit to the program?

This is a Husky board...so it's no surprise lots of folks here feel the Huskies are deserving of some respect this year. So what I'm asking is what do the Huskies need to do to earn your respect. The "you guys suck and always have sucked and always will suck"...and "you will never be better than us" arguments (I'm paraphrasing here) can only be written and read so many times. I'm hoping for a semi-well thought out response here, but hey, that may end up asking too much. So how bout it Mac...no weird puns, no derogatory comments towards our fans, no conspiracy theories.....just an objective opinion. Can you do it?
